On October 19,2020, San Agustin Elementary School launched the “Wash in Hand at Home Program” as a response to the nationwide pandemic necessitated a change in the prior WinS program. COVID19 has become a big problem in the Philippines because it has cut us off from our daily routines. Face to face interaction has been limited to avoid physical contact and spread of the virus, causing us to seek alternative ways to continue the mission and vision of our WinS program. We humans are social animals, tendency to come contact with one another in frequent basis. We build our civilization through socialization and that by doing, we also risk ourselves to diseases that may be carried other humans or by exposing ourselves to a certain environment. We become vectors for illness and infection.
Therefore, our school reiterated to all the pupils the importance of learning proper hygiene. It is very important for us continue educating pupils in these trying times because developing proper hygiene is the key to combatting the spread of COVID-19. By following these proper hand-washing steps whenever our hands are dirty, we can keep ourselves and our families happier and healthier. The proper way of hand washing involves using soap and water together to kill the bacteria. It takes no more than 20 seconds to wash your hands properly-we all have time for that, right? It’s recommended you wash your hands regularly to keep them clean and always after using the toilet or before preparing or eating food.
According to DepEd, the Wash in School Program, is a comprehensive plan to promote correct hygiene and sanitation, practices among home schooling children and clean environment to keep learners safe and healthy. San Agustin Elementary School is just one among educational institutions that promote and help develop children’s good habits in hygiene and sanitation. “A hand full of soap can save a handful of lives”.
